What We Do

Eight integrated thematic areas, designed to work together around the same household rather than in isolation.

Programme 1 of 8

Mental Health and Psychosocial Support

Healing Minds, Restoring Hope.

We provide mental health and psychosocial support services to individuals, families and communities affected by trauma, conflict, displacement, illness, poverty and other life challenges. Our services include mental health assessment, psychiatric treatment support, counselling, psychosocial support, support groups, home visits, referrals, follow-up care and community awareness to promote mental wellbeing, recovery, resilience and social inclusion.

We work with vulnerable populations including children, adolescents, women, persons with disabilities, refugees and war-affected communities, while partnering with health facilities and community leaders to reduce stigma, strengthen access to quality mental health care, and help people live healthy, productive and dignified lives.

War Victims Rehabilitation

Restoring Lives, Rebuilding Futures.

We provide rehabilitation services to war victims, survivors of violence, children born in captivity or born of war, and conflict-affected families. Our services include mental health and psychosocial support, counselling, case management, referrals, community reintegration, livelihood support and survivor support groups to promote healing, restore dignity, strengthen resilience and enable affected individuals to rebuild their lives.

Children Born of War (CBOW) in Northern Uganda were conceived during captivity within the LRA insurgency, born to young women and girls who had been abducted and forced into marriage. Many are now adolescents and young adults still facing stigma, discrimination, identity struggles, and limited access to education, health services, ancestral land and inheritance rights. Targeted psychosocial support, livelihood opportunities, legal protection and community reconciliation remain essential to their wellbeing and reintegration.

Education and Capacity Development

Empowering Minds, Transforming Communities.

We promote access to quality education and holistic child development for vulnerable children and adolescents. Our interventions include educational support, school enrolment and retention, life skills development, mentorship, psychosocial support, child protection, and support for children affected by poverty, conflict, displacement and disability — empowering them to reach their full potential and become responsible, resilient members of society.

We also work across primary, secondary, vocational, tertiary and higher institutions of learning through career guidance, teacher capacity building and school improvement initiatives.

Livelihood and Economic Empowerment

Building Resilient Households for Sustainable Prosperity.

We empower vulnerable individuals, families and communities to achieve sustainable livelihoods and economic self-reliance. Our interventions include vocational and skills training, entrepreneurship development, financial literacy, financial inclusion through village savings and loan associations, income generating activities, agricultural livelihoods and business development support.

We focus particularly on youth, women, persons with disabilities and conflict-affected populations, in order to reduce poverty, strengthen household incomes and build resilient, self-sustaining communities.

Social Protection and Community Development

Protecting the Vulnerable, Strengthening Communities.

We strengthen the protection, dignity and wellbeing of vulnerable individuals and communities by improving access to essential social services, safeguarding rights and promoting social inclusion.

Our interventions include case management, child protection, support for older persons and persons with disabilities, gender-based violence prevention and response, social assistance, referrals, community-based protection and advocacy — helping individuals and families live safe, resilient and dignified lives.

Cultural Restoration and Peace Building

Preserving Heritage, Promoting Peace and Social Cohesion.

This thematic area recognises and strengthens the positive role of cultural traditions, religious beliefs, spiritual practices, family systems, community relationships and local support mechanisms in promoting mental health, psychosocial wellbeing, recovery, social cohesion and resilience.

We engage cultural, religious, traditional and community leaders to promote culturally appropriate and respectful approaches to care, while addressing beliefs and practices that contribute to stigma, discrimination, exclusion or delayed access to health and psychosocial services.

Humanitarian Action and Emergency Response

Ready When Communities Need Us Most.

We support vulnerable communities affected by disasters, conflicts, displacement, disease outbreaks and other humanitarian crises through timely, life-saving assistance and recovery interventions. Our support includes food distribution, provision of non-food items (NFIs), emergency relief supplies, health support, mental health and psychosocial support, protection services, referrals and community-based assistance.

Working with communities and partners, we strengthen disaster preparedness, local response capacity and resilience to future crises — helping affected families recover, rebuild their lives and develop stronger, safer communities.

Research, Advocacy and Partnerships

Evidence That Changes Policy and Practice.

We leverage research, strategic advocacy and partnerships to drive evidence-based solutions that improve policies, strengthen systems and transform lives. Working with governments, communities, academia, civil society and development partners, we generate and apply evidence to design innovative, inclusive and sustainable programmes.

Our collaborative approach mobilises knowledge, resources and collective action to build resilient communities, protect vulnerable populations and deliver lasting social and economic impact.
