Volunteer

Community volunteers carry much of our day-to-day work. If you have time, skills or lived experience to offer, we would like to hear from you.

Why it matters

Volunteers reach households a clinic never will

A person living with severe mental illness in a rural village may never reach a health facility. Our volunteers walk to them — for assessment, treatment follow-up, counselling and support to their caregivers.

Volunteers are trained and supervised by our programme staff, and work within our safeguarding and confidentiality policies. You are never asked to handle something you have not been prepared for.

What we ask of you

  • A commitment you can actually keep — a regular half-day is worth more than an occasional week.
  • Respect for confidentiality. Much of what you will hear is deeply private.
  • Willingness to work within our safeguarding policy, particularly around children and survivors.
  • Relevant qualifications for clinical and counselling roles, which we will verify.

What you can expect from us

  • Induction and role-specific training before you start.
  • Supervision from a named programme staff member, and a debrief after difficult cases.
  • Transport support for field activities, agreed in advance.
  • A written reference and certificate of service on completion.
Safeguarding. Volunteers working directly with children, survivors of violence or people living with mental illness are screened and referenced before placement. We do not place anyone in unsupervised contact with a beneficiary on their first day.
